This case study relates to a solution we have built for Meteor Parking Ltd, a leader in the UK car parking industry. The
solution comprises a custom-built pre-booking database driven web application, with data administration and many other
related services.
Following on from numerous database driven solutions for Meteor, involving public sites with ecommerce, content
management, back office administration sites and PDA software, we were asked us to build a solution to allow customers to
buy permits to park at train station car parks. This sophisticated multi-train operating company solution now involves
integration with many data sources.
The main customer website includes a register and login facility, enabling customers to select their products and make a payment. A
handful of train operating company specific websites have also been built which integrate with this online prebooking service.
Etickets and permits are available in a mixture of hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, six monthly and annual tickets - specific
to each train operating company and the station.
Customer booking confirmations and receipts are sent via email, and email reminders are sent out to customers as their permits are
due to expire. A first-come-first-served car park waiting list facility is provided when the car park is full.
Customer services logins allow for payments to be taken over the phone, and also etickets can be purchased by customers directly
using an automated mobile phone service.
A back office administration site provides full access to staff to the database, and a suite of management reports. Cars are
identified using automatic number plate recognition, and pda software is used by attendants to enable them to issue penalty
charge notices.
This solution continues to support the business and we continue to support the various programs and applications associated.
